Before We Touched

We were together before we touched.

Before you were thrown in front of me

like a winter of wolves,

I could taste the wild jungle

on your golden tongue.

Deep in our hearts,

like some forgotten wish,

our souls predicted this;

our eyes could smell desire,

things of heaven.

Before the sun ever lifted,

I dreamed glorious,

rose-colored days

with you;

tender fingers on the edge of my skin.

Before the world was born

we bathed our hearts

in a fireside affair

an evening crowned

with shimmering stars.

    Giovanni, how lovely… and yet there is that moment:
    Before you were thrown in front of me/like a winter of wolves
    …that speaks to a depth, a ferociousness of love.

    Powerful stuff! Love this. Amy BL

    Pablo Neruda was a big influence on my Love poetry and he always mixes the senses or gives inanimate objects human qualities and vice-versa. Like…”whispering wind” or “thunderous gaze” or “dancing flower” etc.

    Ahhhh… you write about love so well, and very steamy!

    Giovanni, you are so good at painting passion and desire. I like how you mix up the senses: “our eyes could smell desire”

    I like your style …I read your words and I wish to know what is behind each of them … what was the reason to make you write them …

    I will let you know when I’m able to lift my jaw from the floor.
