Skeletons – Pop Song

let me tell a little secret
’bout people you already know
maybe it’s an aeon of issues
maybe just a bump in the road

a winsome little thing named Gilda
she lives just down the road from me
a piece of me knows what killed her
she covers her deformity

she hides her scar with learned beauty
as her gentle soul dies within
i know her as the neighborhood cutie
but she won’t let nobody in

cuz she’s sweeping it under the carpet
shoving it in the closet
her skeletons are gathering dust
is she any different from the rest of us?

larry is a leaping lizard
he says that he’s a family man
he thinks that he’s a prince and a wizard
but some of us know that scam

his daughter sells girl scout cookies
larry junior’s on the soccer team
mommy paints the white picket fence
they’re living the american dream

daddy always gets home late
touchy-feely with his new p.a.
daddy must have forgotten those words
he vowed on his wedding day

cuz he’s sweeping it under the carpet
shoving it in the closet
his skeletons are gathering dust
is he any different from the rest of us?

my pal joey drives a sexy ridepiece
he cruises down the avenue
he never speeds, who knows, but would he?
i’m sure you have, well haven’t you?

his sweet cologne will stop the ladies
benjamins: a bulge in his pants
some people think that he’s a fugazi
no one’s ever seen him dance

my pal joey is an entrepreneur
i’ve seen him work a room at the club
white hand shakes, behind closed doors
sniff snort and rub, sniff snort rub

cuz he’s sweeping it under the carpet
shoving it in the closet
his skeletons are gathering dust
is he really any different from the rest of us?

donny works the 10 to 12 shift
at the trendy restaurant
he makes enough and is a spendthrift
his girlfriend says I WANT WANT WANT!

anyone who says they know him
really can’t claim that at all
maybe i’ll go out on a limb
i know him well enough to make that call

his dad’s a military official
mother volunteers at the church
donny secretly enjoys the missile
be it black, white or solid birch

cuz he’s sweeping it under the carpet
shoving it in the closet
his skeletons are gathering dust
is he really any different from the rest of us?

wow this was powerful and honest. I’m sure we all have our skeletons….some more than others I suppose.

This piece has a resilience and also a vulnerability to it. Factual yet personal
    who isn’t sweeping something…?

Thanks for sharing with One Shot
