The Reality of It All

Everything is juicy on a big flat screen
So much programming I’ve never seen
They call it reality, but I know better
Tell you it’s live but it’s scripted to the letter

They’re the idols of America while America is idle
Three card monty in your living room
A cast of flunkies destroying an art
Advertising profits shoot through the roof

Post production for couch potatoes
Executive producer with a broken halo

Ever waste an hour with the Jersey Shore?
Illiterate meatheads and stupid whores
Perfect examples of our current state
Five mill per year is the going rate

What does this say to our children?
What does it tell them to be?
Obnoxious and self-indulgent
Welcome to reality TV

Everyone needs to get a handle
Everyone needs to change the channel

Flawed characters make a huge impact
All that drama and the yak yak yak
Real Housewives bitchin’ ’bout all their friends
Shammin’ and pretendin’ to the very end

Viewers escaping their own Real World
Sucked off to a fantasy life
Blind to all the contrived situations
They see suburban mansions and glamorous lives

Bethenny got married and I did not care
Rachel Getting Married is much better fare.

Yes, I understand how everyone needs an escape or a little cave time, and some use reality TV as soothing entertainment but I really think we can use our precious time a lot more productively.
    Thanks for stopping by!

Nicely put. I abhor reality TV, and this captures all the reasons for my aversion.
